Hina Culture: Polynesian There are many complex legends about Hina (Heena). Some are told of her as the goddess of dawn or as a warrior queen, even as the creator of death. My favorite legend has Hina as the moon goddess. She lives on the moon in a grove of trees she brought from earth in her canoe. We see her moon forests in the dark areas of the moon.
