This piece was created by an unknown Ethiopian artist of the 18th Century. This painting is of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ stipulate the events that lead up to his death very vividly. Each scene is separated by use of horizontal and verticle lines. The background color is very nude. This helps the artist bring the characters in the painting to life especially the Bishop. The high intense use blue embraces the soft red tints complimented by olive green brings definition to the physical form as well as make their dispositions more obvious. Geometric circles are used behind the head of spiritual influences such as Jesus on the cross and Mary near the bottom of the left leg of Jesus. The details of the rail like body structure, and curves in the stomach and rib cages of Jesus and the other men hanging on the crosses illustrate their suffering from physical affliction, perhaps starvation due to denial of food.
