Javanese culture was religious based mostly in Buddhist belief however this piece in not identified as such. This heavy metal sculpture details of branches spouting from the top portion of the back of the head is a tree. In most religions this would symbolize the tree of life or wisdom. The bronze texture confirms that it has some cultural significance. The open hands may represent some form of reverence or submission. The top half of the body is separated from the bottom portion yet connected by the chest cavity on an angle leaning right shifting the asymmetrical balance. And the hands seem to differentiate. The hands connected to the bottom half appear more human like with details of fingers and the ones above seem to be transforming into branches of the tree which shift it's symmetrical balance. The change in shape of hands and body separation could represent a spirit descending from the human body.
