Biography

I draw, paint and photograph, and often use mixed media within my art. My artwork explores the concepts of: emotion, memory, location, self and identity. Using a combination of painting techniques, I create a wide range of work from landscape to figurative, integrating colour and my imagination. I primarily paint landscapes, seascapes & skyscapes; however, I also explore nature, the world around me and the human form, all of which influences my work.

Colours can influence a person or a location and this excites me. I feel that colour can explore and connote a deep emotional meaning to viewers of my work and this is a central consideration when each piece is created. Additionally, direction and movement features strongly within my work, encompassing styles from abstract to landscapes. Art comes alive within people’s minds and I aim to ignite the same excitement within every person who views or buys my work.

Much of my work has utilised my multimedia experience. I also enjoy practicing art within the media of photography, film, drawing and the written form. I have practised, within my degree, two speciality areas which are Fine Art and Photography. Having developed a deep affinity for theoretical debates and concepts currently debated within the art world, I often integrate ideas into my educational practices, painting and photographs.

Artistic influences are both male and female. However, as a woman I enjoy exploring female contemporary work, such as Maggie Hambling, Sarah Lucas, Tracey Emin, Jenny Saville and other such exciting progressive and challenging artists. Their work I relate to in a profound way which inspires and spurs me on. I enjoy their confidence, faith, techniques and ideas. Other artists of interest are past ‘masters’ including Frida Kahlo, Jackson Pollock and Picasso.

I have exhibited within the UK in group shows showing both paintings and sculpture (see below). I have artwork displayed in private collections in both the UK and USA.
