Biography

"BIOGRAPHY" Hector Geraldo Kriete was born in Leticia, Brazil. He lived in a three storied house located near a river, and the jungle as his backyard. As a young boy he was fascinated by animals, trees and his culture. After a few years, Hector moved to Cali, Colombia and attended ?Academia Militar Jose Maria Cabal?. Even though he attended a military school, his teachings were very artistic. It was there when Hector was introduced to drawing, sculpture, painting, and music. At the age of thirteen again he moved further up north to the United States. Hector lived in Hollywood and there learned the art of graffiti. After two years and two schools, he moved to the city of San Pedro and began taking classes at Palos Verdes Peninsula High School. There Hector learned the art of ceramics. Luckily Hector had sympathetic teachers, and would be able to leave class to pursue his passion as long as he would keep his grades up. After school he would stay in ceramics class, go work on a painting, or play music with friends. Once High school ended many choices arose but after a presentation by the Art Instituted of Los Angeles Hector had a clear choice. He decided to do what he was most familiar with ?the pencil?, and to become an animator. After a year of being fed up with computers and no fine arts, hector decided to go back to ceramics. Currently Hector is attending Harbor college where he can express his true passion, where some how all of his experiences can be transformed into one medium of ceramics. "ARTIST STATEMENT" I have experimented with all kinds of art mediums like drawing, painting, music and sculpture. But there is just something about ceramics. I believe that it is the one of the oldest types of expression. Ceramics has been around for ever, and been used from developing numbers to writing music. The processes that take place in all different types of firing are extraordinary. They?ve been developed by hundreds of years, and history can be traced back to the beginning with it. I feel very connected with it even though the world is rapidly changing.
