About my Art works
Long long time ago man had no instrument even to quench his thirst he had to go far away in search of the river. This went on for many many years. One day while coming back from the river, he saw a big boulder which had a slight depression ,which has been filed with yesterday rain water .an idea strike him he took the boulder home. Using it as a container he used to drink water from that.
One day the boulder said to the primitive man, “huh, it is only because of me that you are able to drink water with ease”. Hearing that the man ran into his cave and came out with his axe. Quickly he started cutting and striking the stone and it transformed into a bow. After that looking at the stone, everybody use to say, “bah, what a beautiful bowl”. Nobody called it a ‘stone’ anymore. The Identity of the stone was no more of a stone but a ‘bowl’. This was a man’s creation. From then on started the birth of ‘art’ from men’s hand and their relationship into infinity.
This ancient story is an inspiration for the way I feel and know &look at art. My art stems from various sources-like the jerking and journey of Sufi quawwali, various mood of Rabindranath sangit, folk song, bohemian song of Arab Bedouins &the Far East. When I listen to this song, images come to my mind which I try putting on the canvas. Along with these I related my paintings with the contemporary happening around me, be it political or social. I have a particular curiosity and interest in knowing the history of mankind, the development of men through the ages. I believe that as in the history of western art, after the Renaissance, they had tired to achieve their art analytically through various – isms. But in other parts of the world, like Asian subcontinents, the practices did not evolve through any – isms. Still then they were creating art which had sources in various religious practices, superstitious beliefs etc. Which were very intricately linked with their daily life.
In this vein , very much the same , but not primitively, I do my artworks, keeping it as a performances, where I try to express my emotion , feelings , where they take various shapes and forms images which in turn have their own statement, its can be an interpretation of natural phenomena.
